Heads Need A Parade

The Head Partner often needs a lot of respect and appreciation from a Heart Partner. The Head tends to experience love through recognition of competence, reliability, judgment, and contribution—while the Heart often experiences love through emotional connection, affection, empathy, and feeling understood. The mismatch can become especially important because the Head partner may be doing many things that are easy for the Heart to overlook precisely because they happen so consistently.

A Heart-led partner may naturally give love through:“I love you.”“I miss you.”“I understand how you feel.”“Come here.”“Let's talk about it.”

A Head-led partner may be particularly nourished by:“I trust your judgment.”“You handled that really well.”“I appreciate how dependable you are.”“I know I can count on you.”“You're really good at figuring things out.”For the Head, these statements communicate something profound:“I see your value.”And feeling valuable can be a major component of feeling loved.
